Isabelle Pellegrin discovered the flexible, aesthetic
qualities of inner tubes purely by chance. She particularly appreciates the
leathery velvet like appearance, the masculine beauty, the solidity and the
adaptability. Apart from metal sculptures, she dedicates a major part of her
creativity energy to inner tube work. Largely using techniques borrowed from
leathercraft and saddlery, this is nonetheless a form of art in its own right.
With the black colour imposed by the inner tube, Isabelle finds a means of
expression in the forms she creates, the accumulation of seams adding its
own cartographic dimension. The brilliance of mirrors is used to distend a
silhouette, playing off the gloss and the matt surfaces.
